What parent doesn’t want their kiddos to FINALLY be friends!
Honestly, I give the teachers & staff at Matthias so much credit for helping this finally become a reality for us.
I was worried that this season of Kayla being home was gonna be rough. Rach had many years of just not being nice to her & targeting K with her behaviors every time she walked into the room. It was hard to witness SO much love from the big sis & the opposite being shown from the little. We tried for years with the AbA therapists & made some but not much progress.
Enter MATTHIAS!! Rachel’s teacher had the idea to invite Kayla to the school for a tour led by Rach. It gave Rach such pride to lead! She even went on other adventures with them outside of school time. This really helped foster Kayla’s confidence & ability to be out in the community with Rach & they began going on “dates”. It gave them quality time together w/out the parents- LOL! We started noticing a shift. Their friendship began to grow & Rach began asking for Kayla time! It was SO heartwarming.
Just one more reason to be incredibly grateful that God brought Matthias into our lives! I love this throwback pic of my girlies on Mother’s Day. It will be hard not to be all together today. But I’m flooded with happy memories from years past & from this winter & spring watching them blossom together into the women God has created them to be! (It’s still weird to think of Rach as a woman! Ha!)
We’ve started a new fundraising campaign at Matthias to fund the renovation of our brand new facility! It’s called Brick by Brick & will create an accessible path between the new buildings!
