My son Tommy just turned 18 on March 16th. He received the greatest birthday gift this year. It was his first day attending Matthias Academy.
One year ago, my oldest son Nathan and I toured Matthias Academy. We made the decision on the spot to fundraise and request a spot in the day program. I knew it would entail moving from Illinois but knew in my heart, it was the answer to our prayers.
Fast forward to September 2022, I closed on my house in Pleasant Prairie. We enrolled Tommy at the local high school until he was able to attend Matthias. We couldn’t have been happier to find out his teacher there has a brother currently attending Matthias. I knew then that this was all meant to be and we were on the right track.
Tommy has transitioned beautifully! We are blessed with transportation there as well which has helped me tremendously. I was overjoyed to learn that Liz Pumala, the fearless founder was announcing closing on a 88 acre property 4 miles down the street from the current location.
What???? Wait a minute, how did that happen? She is an example of someone who creates a vision and makes it happen full steam ahead. Eventually, that property will include the campus, community center and Tommy’s forever home as well. That’s the one piece in my vision for him that has always been missing. I can exhale. I know in my heart we are exactly where we are supposed to be at this very moment.
Thank you for your donations! You are impacting the lives of so many at Matthias.
It takes a village but I know that with the help of all of us, and all of you, and our leader Liz Pumala,we can make this happen!
